Natural Cleaning Tips

natural cleaning ingredients on a marble table

Every year as Earth Day approaches I try to think of ways that I can improve on my families overall health.
One of the things I look at is the cleaning products I use and whether or not they are healthy for my family. My kids have allergies and I often have to be careful with the household cleaners I use. Here's a look at natural cleaning ingredients an tips that are good for the family.

Natural Cleaning Ingredients:

White Vinegar - cuts grease, remove mildew and odors.
Baking Soda - cleans, deodorizes, scours.
Olive Oil can be used to polish wood.
Lemon - cuts grease, shines, and smells great.
Essential oils - has anti-bacterial benefits and can be used to freshen the home.

Natural Cleaning Tips

*To clean your floor - mix 1 cup Vinegar and 2 Gallons warm water.

*To clean your toilet bowel - pour 1 cup Vinegar and let sit for 30 minutes. Then scrub bowl with baking soda.

*Tub and Tile - Remove grime and film with Vinegar on a sponge. Wipe down. Then use baking soda to scrub tub.

*I would definitely add an essential oil like Lemon, Lime, Lemongrass, or Lavender to get rid of the sour smell.

All of these recipes are all natural ways to clean and contain no preservatives.  Because they are non toxic, they will help your family and the environment.  What's even better is the fact that it's so cheap!  No more strong fumes and more cash in your pocket.  Now that's a win-win!

  1. Good tips. Going try the vinegar in the toilet.

  2. I don't normally clean with natural ingredients. I often make my own conditioning spray for my hair so I guess it wouldn't be too difficult to do. My only concern with the vinegar is the smell (which I absolutely don't like) and how much I have to scrub. So I would definitely need the essential oil.

    1. I don't do it as much as I should. But with folks with allergies and asthma around, I need to do more.

  9. I love using vinegar as a cleaning agent. That's about as deep as I go. Other than that I'm using the traditional harsh cleansers.

  14. Thank you for this! It seems like more recently these chemicals are starting to irritate my eyes. I just told my husband that I need to find an organic way to clean so I'm not on the verge of passing out every time.
